​I do not knowingly use generative AI (GenAI) in any aspect of my translation and editing work. All texts I deliver are fully human-translated or human-edited, with the exception that I use non-AI-based software tools such as PerfectIt for quality assurance.​

Why I do not use GenAI in my work

• Environmental impact
  ​AI has extremely high energy and water usage, which is exacerbating the growing climate emergency.

• Unethical
  AI models are trained on plagiarised content, whose human creators are not compensated. They also often make use of exploitative and morally dubious labour practices in Global South countries.

• Socially harmful
  GenAI can cause or worsen mental health problems, in some cases even leading to psychosis or self-harm. It can also impair the development and retention of vital skills and cognitive capacities. 

• Barrier to quality
  Achieving the highest quality in my work requires me to think carefully and in depth about the texts I am working on – not to switch my brain off. GenAI interrupts or distracts from that process, and it is often harder to spot mistakes in its output due to phenomena such as automation bias.

• Creatively and intellectually bankrupt
  I attach value to the work of human creators, artists and thinkers. I do not want to live in a world filled with regurgitated AI slop.
